In the burial ground beside our church stands a gravestone for a young woman named Cicely. The stone identifies her as a person of African descent enslaved by a minister of our church, Rev. William Brattle. Who was Cicely? What are the legacies of slavery at First Parish? And what spiritual and ethical questions must we consider as we seek to reckon with and repair past harm—in our community, and in our own lives? Please join us as we embark on an important journey together. Pianist Joe Reid, vocalist Zoe Krohne and the First Parish Jazz Combo will lead our music this Sunday.
