The First Parish Environmental Justice Team strives to raise awareness about the devastating impacts of our human activities on the earth. We acknowledge that climate change is impacting disproportionately those who are least responsible and have the fewest resources to handle the consequences such as flood, famine, rising sea levels and severe storms.

As Unitarian Universalists, we respect the inherent worth and dignity of every person and the interrelated web of existence. We consider it our moral obligation to work to move our society away from fossil fuels towards renewable sources of energy. In 2022, we together with our coalition partners lobbied for the successful passage of the state Climate Bill.

The team provides opportunities through the Social Justice Newsletter for everyone to participate in environmental justice organizing and service activities. The team also sponsors events to educate First Parish members and friends about environmental issues and positive action.  We work with other UUs and other faith communities. We work with UU Mass Action and other organizations including local groups such as GreenRoots and ACE (Alternatives for Community and Environment) on climate legislation, for renewable sources of energy, for land and water restoration, on housing and public health, and against new fossil fuel infrastructure. We continue to support and promote divestment from fossil fuels.

Please join us! We meet virtually (by Zoom) on the third Wednesday of the month. If you have any questions, or would like to meet for coffee and learn more, please email either of us at: cshibbard79@gmail.com  or gracewhall@msn.com.
