Our Governance

SAVE THE DATE:  Special Business Meeting to Vote on New Bylaws:  March 19, 2017

Final proposed bylaws for vote on March 19th:

On March 19, 2017, we will vote on new First Parish bylaws at a special business meeting.

These proposed bylaws are a product of many hours of consultation, conversation and feedback.  The process started last summer when Gloria Korsman and Linda West researched UUA best practices for congregation bylaws and consulted with Mike Wiggins, First Parish member and attorney as well as Dan Hotchkiss, our governance consultant.  They presented the draft to the Standing Committee Governance Working Group, made revisions, and then turned the draft over to the Standing Committee.  Standing Committee contributed numerous rounds of feedback.  Peggy Kraft and Linda West then conducted a series of three Congregational Conversations this winter to solicit input from the congregation.  Cade Murray, Chair of Finance Committee, joined Peggy and Linda in consultation with Investment Committee in March to solicit further feedback.  A number of members emailed questions and comments as well.  Each step of this process provided important input that contributed to the final version.

We encourage all members to review the bylaws and come to the special meeting on March 19.  Our congregation is a democracy and depends on active participation.  If you have any questions before the meeting, please contact standingcommittee@firstparishcambridge.org.
