The First Parish Environmental Justice Task Force strives to raise awareness about the devastating impacts of our human activities on the earth. We acknowledge that climate change is impacting disproportionately those who are least responsible and have the fewest resources to handle the consequences such as flood, famine, rising sea levels and severe storms.
As Unitarian Universalists, we respect the inherent worth and dignity of every person and the interrelated web of existence. We consider it our moral obligation to work to move our society away from fossil fuels towards renewable sources of energy. In 2012, with the leadership of the EJTF, First Parish voted to divest its endowment from fossil fuels.
The task force organizes events to educate First Parish members and friends about climate change and provide opportunities to advocate for a just and sustainable world in concert with other UUs and other organizations and faith communities. The church as a whole joined MAICCA (Massachusetts Interfaith Climate Change Action) last year and works with MAICCA and UU Mass Action on climate legislation and against new fossil fuel infrastructure and for renewable sources of energy. We continue to support and promote divestment from fossil fuels campaigns.
Please join us! We meet at First Parish on the second Wednesday of the month. If you have any questions, or would like to meet for coffee and learn more, please email us at: EJTF@firstparishcambridge.org
