Make A Joyful Noise!

Come, make a joyful noise with us!

Music – with its limitless capacity to inspire, soothe, energize, comfort, and delight – has long been at the heart of worship at First Parish in Cambridge. Post-pandemic, our music program is emerging as a newly refreshed, enriched and enlivened presence. Our Sunday worship services incorporate a great diversity of musical forms, from inspiring individual vocal and instrumental performances, to the uplifting sound of the congregation’s voices, raised together in song.

Come make a joyful noise with us!

Several times a month, our creative and dynamic interim choral director Vivian Montgomery, directs a multi-generational choir in performing music of all genres. Vivian’s passions include harpsichord and early music, as well as folk and Klezmer, and she often accompanies singers with lively accordion playing.

Keyboardist Joe Reid skillfully accompanies singers on the piano, and also contributes his own jazzy flare to solo and ensemble performances. And, once a month, gospel choral director and pianist Linda Brown-San Martin lends her charismatic leadership and inspired style. Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass section leaders strengthen our choir, and offer options for solos and ensembles.

At First Parish in Cambridge, we strive for music that provides opportunities for deepening connections with each other and with our spiritual sources. Services typically include participatory music that physically engages the congregation, such as call-and-response singing and traditional hymns.

Do you love to sing? You are warmly invited to join the choir at First Parish. Rehearsals take place on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am (in person). Please contact Vivian Montgomery.
